Volunteering Opportunities
We are currently looking for a number of volunteers to support the vital work we do.
Volunteer Befrienders
Volunteer Befrienders are matched to an individual asylum seeker or refugee. The aim for the volunteer is to support the person they are matched with
- to familiarise themselves with the local area,
- to help them integrate into the local community,
- to gain access to other services and
- to help alleviate the emotional stress caused by past trauma and the present asylum process.
Time Commitment:
Volunteers must be able to spare two to three hours per week on a flexible basis and some daytime availability is preferred even at weekends. Befriender matches vary in length of time. Volunteers must be able to commit to the role for a minimum of six months, attend regular supervision sessions and attend mandatory training.
Location: We are based in Chelmsley Wood however, volunteers visit the clients in their own home so you must be prepared to travel some distance either by walking, car or public transport.
Volunteer Interpreters
Volunteer Interpreters support clients seeking advice by facilitating the flow of communication between clients with none/limited English and our advisors and where possible, interpreting written information
Time commitment : Our advisors make appointments during the week and will ask if you are free to support with interpreting. Volunteers will need to commit to regular supervision with the Volunteer Coordinator and attend mandatory training.

- Dari Kurdish
- Ukrainian Russian
